BMS (Building Management System)
In this post, I want to talk about one of the Technology and advanced system that we use in our building to make our life easier and more manageable than before
What is BMS or Building Management System?
is the term we use to describe a computer-based system installed inside or outside the building to monitor, control, and manage the devices and equipment such as HVAC units, ventilation, lights, fire alarm systems, electrical and security systems.
BMS is also known as:
BAS (Building Automation Systems)
EMS (Energy Management Systems)
EMCS (Energy Management Control Systems)
BEMS (Building Energy Management Systems)
And ……
Here I need to clarify all of these terms that I mentioned above are talking about BMS and have the same meaning,
BMS back then was a very expensive management method for building and few building owners were able to afford it, today with many tech companies and vendors all around the world, it is getting more advance and also affordable for everybody to use it.
In addition, it makes our life easier, save time, and reduces the building operation cost, especially for the big buildings where you have to hire people just to control and supervision, and also special projects like Data Centers need 24/7 supervision, measuring and monitoring the building or facility performance, like Mechanical and security, and provide a report of malfunctions and send it to the computer-based server to analysis, prioritize and report to the supervisor in an easiest and fastest way.
Because any potential problem regardless of the size and capacity, can disrupt the services and cause temporary and permanent damage to the whole system.

The other privilege of using BMS in the building, it reduces human errors, has real-time measuring and controlling of the input and outputs of the system like energy consumption and workload, it gives you the ability to just install and use the minimum required fixtures and avoid spending more money on overdesigned devices and helps you increase your control inside the building, it means you just pay for what exactly needs and no more unnecessary expenses in a traditional way.
The other function of BMS is to monitor the security system which includes CCTVs, and FIRE extinguishers monitor any kind of failures in the system that might be stay hidden from the eyes
In conclusion, I need to mention, that in today’s fast-paced world, without using any kind of BMS, the chance of mismanagement, malfunction, disruption, and unnecessary cost goes up.
Architecture these days is not just the simple design like architects were doing before, today we have to combine 3 major things like Design, structure, and technology in any scientific field together in order to be able to find a solution to the new problem and challenges that human and world face with it.
